My fourteen year-old son and I are both big fans of Mad Men. And we both have crushes on the schoolteacher, Miss Farrell. We understand Don Draper's attraction to her.

What are your symptoms when you know you've been "glutened"? How do you react?

Tonight at Casa Del Milla

  • Nov. 14th, 2009 at 1:04 PM
That One Guy is in town tonight, playing at the World Cafe Live and crashing at Casa Del Milla's New and Enhanced Rock Star accomodations. If you're not coming out to the show, I highly recommend at least watching this ... crazy, amazing video.

Photo shoot tomorrow most likely.

Weir sold out tonight and most of next week too. Still some tickets for Thursday. They're looking to possibly extend the show.

First Post + Vault Boy Plush

  • Nov. 14th, 2009 at 12:40 PM
Hi all, I've been looking for craft communities to join, and I stumbled upon this one.

You can just call me Niemand. I've been sewing off and on for four years now. I make plush dolls as well as hats, but that's for a different community :p

Today I'd like to share a plush doll I just finished this morning. I was commissioned by a friend to make Vault Boy from Fallout 3.

Could Joan have been a war time nurse?

  • Nov. 14th, 2009 at 9:01 AM
I don't know if anyone has ever suggested/discussed this:

Could Joan have been a nurse when younger, perhaps in a war zone?
Two reasons I wondered: She springs into action when the guy's foot is mowed over with an almost doctor-like reaction, and then in one episode when she's still having an affair with Roger she won't eat the lunch he ordered--because it's in the room and she says she 'doesn't like food so close to the bed, it reminds her of a hospital.'

I'd love to hear what anybody thinks!! : )

servants

  • Nov. 14th, 2009 at 12:44 PM
I was just thinking of the fan reaction to Betty, especially regarding her servant.

I was surprised to see many negative reactions to Betty on the grounds that she has a servant (Carla) who also takes care of the kids. I think because most of the show's fans are American. I'm of Indian origin and I offer a different perspective.

Growing up it was a very normal idea for me that an Indian family has servants. It has become less and less prevalent over the years because many people don't want to be servants anymore or demand too high pay, but the culture is still there. My mothers family members have several servants who work for them. They don't just do their own jobs however, they also pitch in raising the children. My mother's cousins wife doesn't even work, yet she has people to help her out with her small child. She just likes having time for herself and her girlfriends/husband.

I'm sure that in the time of Mad Men, it would be normal for someone of Betty's position to have one or several servants. I noted the negative reactions especially regarding the last episode.

So no I don't think Betty is a bad mother in that respect, and I find it interesting to note the cultural differences. Any thoughts?

say you know you have been glutened. how long does it take for that to get out of your system so your blood work will show you haven't had any. weeks? days? months?

i know with my diabetes, they can get a three month average, so i wasn't sure if it lasted this long.

thanks for your help!
